[email protected] Abstract In this paper, we fabricated transparent flexible nanogenerators (NGs) by employing flexible polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate for the growth of ZnO nanowires. The fully packaged NG showed good transparency with a transmittance of 50–60% in the visible range. The output voltage and current was 8 V and 0.6 mA, respectively, corresponding to an output power density of 5.3 mW/cm. The NG also showed excellent robustness and could stably scavenge energy from the motion of a vehicle. Based on this characteristic, we demonstrated its application as a self-powered sensor for monitoring vehicle speed and detecting vehicle weight. & 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Transparent triboelectric nanogenerators and self-powered pressure sensors based on micropatterned plastic films.

Transparent, flexible and high efficient power sources are important components of organic electronic and optoelectronic devices. In this work, based on the principle of the previously demonstrated triboelectric generator, we demonstrate a new high-output, flexible and transparent nanogenerator by using transparent polymer materials. We have fabricated three types of regular and uniform polymer...

A self-powered piezotronic strain sensor based on single ZnSnO3 microbelts†

We demonstrated a flexible self-powered system that consists of a strain sensor and a nanogenerator. An individual ZnSnO3 microbelt was bonded at its ends to a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate to fabricate a strain sensor and a single-nanobelt nanogenerator. The sensor and nanogenerator were connected in series and packaged by a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) layer. The ZnSnO3 belongs to...

A nanogenerator for energy harvesting from a rotating tire and its application as a self-powered pressure/speed sensor.

Harvesting unexploited energy in the living environment to power small electronic devices and systems is attracting increasing massive attention. [ 1–7 ] As the size of the devices has shrunk to the nanoor microscale, the power consumption also decreased to a modest level, i.e., the microwatts to milliwatts range. It is entirely possible to drive such a device by directly scavenging energy from...

Triboelectric Nanogenerator Enabled Body Sensor Network for Self-Powered Human Heart-Rate Monitoring.

Heart-rate monitoring plays a critical role in personal healthcare management. A low-cost, noninvasive, and user-friendly heart-rate monitoring system is highly desirable. Here, a self-powered wireless body sensor network (BSN) system is developed for heart-rate monitoring via integration of a downy-structure-based triboelectric nanogenerator (D-TENG), a power management circuit, a heart-rate s...

A nanogenerator as a self-powered sensor for measuring the vibration spectrum of a drum membrane.

A nanogenerator (NG) is a device that converts vibration energy into electricity. Here, a flexible, small size and lightweight NG is successfully demonstrated as an active sensor for detecting the vibration spectrum of a drum membrane without the use of an external power source. The output current/voltage signal of the NG is a direct measure of the strain of the local vibrating drum membrane th...
